Girl Scouts
Paddle, Pole & Roll
Eagle Rafting’s Paddle Pole and Roll Program has been approved by the Girls Scouts of America. This is Eagle Rafting’s most highlighted “2 Day” Outreach Program that we offer to the public. Scout councilors and staff run this program. This program also accommodates and gives opportunity to the physically challenged. Girl Scouts Rafting in Southern California (CA).
The Paddle Pole & Roll Program is a two day course to complete. The course is based on the troops needs and agenda set for the scouts. In this program, scouts will master a progressive set of skills starting from the basics.
Day 1: Training Day
Day 1 kicks off with the scouts arrival on our deck to be fitted with their equipment and introduced to our staff. After a lesson on their safety gear and water dangers, scouts are ready to get on the water and learn how to handle a paddle and learn different types of strokes such as forward, back paddle, draw right/left, turn right/left, and stop.
After lunch, scouts finish the second part of the day with IK Instruction. They are introduced to the AIRE Inflatable Kayaks. These watercraft are colorful, self-bailing, and most of all FUN! Scouts will use these boats to learn and demonstrate self-rescue, safety techniques such as how to get out of whitewater holes, and how to float in moving water.
That will wrap up our first day. Time for a hard earned nap!
Day 2: Here’s where it all pays off
The second day we get the scouts on the section of river that is four miles of Class II and III (Moderate Whitewater) section of the Upper Kern River. In the morning, we take 2 raft rides (IK’s are optional) and then break for lunch. In the afternoon, the scouts can either raft or put their newly found IK skills to the test for the rest of the day.
